Nothing about the day felt like it needed to be overcomplicated. It was about the two of them, the people they loved most, and actually enjoying everything they had spent so much time looking forward to.
They kept their wedding party small, with just a maid of honor and best man standing beside them. That fit the day perfectly. Their closest people were there when they needed them, but so much of the day was centered around Amy and James simply being together. And when it came to being in front of the camera, that was exactly where we started.
And once the dancing started, nobody held back.
What stands out most about Amy and James’ wedding isn’t one perfectly posed photograph or one specific moment. It’s the way they grew more comfortable as the day went on. They allowed themselves to be present, trust the experience, and actually enjoy being photographed instead of treating photos like something they had to get through.
That is always the goal.
Your wedding photos should never feel like another item on the schedule. They should come from the experience you’re already having — the laughter, nerves, emotion, movement, and people around you.
Amy and James gave themselves permission to enjoy all of it, and their photographs tell that story beautifully.
That’s one of my favorite parts of photographing a wedding. Watching that moment when a couple stops thinking about the camera and starts focusing on each other.
By the time we moved through their portraits, they were comfortable, confident, and genuinely having fun with it. The result was a collection of photos that felt polished and beautiful without losing who Amy and James actually are.
Their first look gave them a chance to see each other before the ceremony and spend a little time together before the rest of the day picked up. It wasn’t about creating a perfect reaction for a photograph. It was simply a chance for the two of them to connect, take everything in, and realize: this is really happening.
Then came the ceremony.
With the Connecticut River stretching out behind them, Amy and James exchanged vows overlooking the water at the Glastonbury Boathouse. The setting gave the ceremony this calm, open feeling while their family and friends surrounded them with so much excitement and support. From there, the energy of the day continued to build.
The reception brought together everything that makes weddings so much fun to photograph. There were emotional first dances, heartfelt moments with family, plenty of laughter, and eventually a dance floor where everyone was ready to celebrate.
